PANEL CONVERSATIONS

SYSTEMIC APPROACH TO CREATING SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS IN AFRICA

Despite the prevalent adoption of and progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals around the world, reports show that Africa has made minimal progress. Attaining progress calls for effective and coordinated partnerships and systemic approaches to resolving the challenges inherent in various sectors of the African economy. This discussion seeks to explore strategies for creating systemic change across Africa’s ecosystem. Taking a systemic approach toward achieving sustainable development requires the creation of a vision that helps to shift perspectives, creating new innovations and systems to support them. The systems approach offers perspectives that result in long-lasting solutions to longstanding challenges. It recognizes the importance of stakeholders - the public, private, and social sector actors, and how each sector can enable an effective and efficient system. This discourse will identify the different actors required to achieve the much-needed shift in systems with the aim of creating sustainable solutions in Africa.

AFRICA’S DISRUPTORS: THE CHANGING LANDSCAPE OF INNOVATION

Despite Africa’s economy being ridden with challenges, such as high levels of poverty, poor education, worsening food insecurity, and underemployment among others, change agents and catalysts are showing up consistently and are at the centre of addressing these deep-rooted multidimensional challenges. The environmental, education and business landscape is gradually shifting as novel ideas, inventions and new technologies are being modelled around the continent. This change process is a result of consistent, collaborative and people-centred work. This panel conversation will showcase innovators across the continent who are leading transformational change in various sectors.
